Facebook reaches 250 million users and introduces new targeting options for advertisers

Marking its 250 millionth user, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new array of targeting options for advertisers attempting to engage audiences online. Three new targeting techniques have been added to Facebook Ads, most notably, Connection Targeting. This allows advertisers to target their ads only at users who are fans of their pages, members of their groups or users of their applications. This represents a significant opportunity for brands and provides some interesting crowdsourcing possibilities.

Other targeting options include Multi-Country Targeting and Birthday Targeting. Both represent interesting possibilities for asset managers and financial services companies- the first from a multi-jurisdictional campaign perspective and the other for ‘coming of age’ or even ‘retirement’ campaign concepts. With a little application and creativity, the possibilities are endless.
